About England Universities



England has 90 universities that are made up of smaller colleges. The number of people who applied to these schools in 2007 grew by over 6 percent. The university systems of the United States and England are quite different. In the United States, students can change their major relatively easily. In the England, this is nearly impossible to do. In the United States, it usually takes four years to complete a degree; in England, it normally takes three. However, the English take an extra year of school by the time they are 18. In the United States, the majority of courses are taught in lecture format; in England, many are instructed in small groups or one-on-one seminars. Most U.S. secondary schools have homework with a specific deadline; in England, there is primarily independent study until the final exam
